A 10 in tall, 100 mil HDPE edge that helps keep spreading grass out of garden beds. Cut to the length you order, in 5 ft steps.
Height
Project pricing is calculated for the full continuous cut.
Volume pricing, taken off in the cart: $1.63/ft at 50 ft or more, $1.44/ft at 100 ft or more. Every foot of Grass Barrier in your order counts, across cuts.
One continuous piece up to 110 ft. For a longer run, add another cut.
How much do I need?
Where two ends meet, they overlap a little inside the clamps. No extra length is needed.

How it works
Spreading grass creeps into beds along the edge, just under the surface. Grass Barrier is a 10 in tall strip of 100 mil HDPE set mostly below grade, with the top edge holding back mulch, rock or soil.
Three ways to set it
Standard: 6 in below grade and 4 in above. Low profile: 8 in below and 2 in above. Or flush, with all 10 in below.
Relax the coil first
Let it sit in the sun before you set it, so it lies flat and follows the bed line.
Clamped joints
Join ends with the Grass Barrier connecting kit: two pre-drilled 200 mil HDPE clamps with 316 stainless hardware. Overlap the ends a little inside the clamps; it makes the joint easier to line up.
Which layout should I use?
Grass Barrier is a 10 in tall strip, and you choose how much goes below the soil. For Bermuda and other grass with runners, use the standard layout: 6 in below and 4 in above.
| Layout | Below the soil | Above the soil | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 6 in | 4 in | Grass with runners, like Bermuda; holds mulch in |
| Low profile | 8 in | 2 in | A lower look; plan to trim runners more often |
| Flush | 10 in | 0 in | A hidden edge; runners can cross the top |
The part below the soil is your trench depth. Clear the grass already in the bed before you set the edge.
The more that shows above the soil, the higher a runner has to climb, so it is easier to see and trim.
How to install it
The short version of the install manual.
-
Lay out the edge
Shape the bed line with a garden hose or rope, then measure it. Call 811 before you dig.
-
Relax the coil
Unroll the barrier and let it sit in the sun before you set it.
-
Dig a narrow trench
6 in deep for the standard 4 in above grade, 8 in for a 2 in low profile, or 10 in to set it flush.
-
Set and join
Stand the barrier in the trench and join ends with the Grass Barrier connecting kit, one kit per joint. Overlap the ends a little inside the clamps so the joint lines up.
-
Backfill
Firm the soil on both sides and top off the bed.

Questions
Is Grass Barrier 10 in deep or 10 in tall?
It is a 10 in tall strip, and you choose how much goes below the soil. Standard: 6 in below and 4 in above. Low profile: 8 in below and 2 in above. Flush: all 10 in below. The more that shows, the higher a runner has to climb, so it is easier to see and trim.
Which layout should I use for Bermuda grass?
Use the standard layout: 6 in below the soil and 4 in above. The buried part meets rhizomes, and the 4 in lip makes runners climb where you can trim them. Clear the Bermuda already in the bed first.
How many feet should I order?
Measure every bed edge you want to protect and round up to the next 5 ft. Joints need no extra length. The “How much do I need?” calculator above handles straight runs, rectangles and circles.
How is it sold?
By the foot in 5 ft steps, with a 20 ft minimum. Each cut ships as one continuous piece up to 110 ft. For a longer run, order more than one cut.
Do longer orders cost less?
Yes. Grass Barrier is $2.16 per foot, $1.63 from 50 ft and $1.44 from 100 ft, applied automatically in the cart. Every foot of Grass Barrier in your order counts, across cuts.
How do I join two ends?
With the Grass Barrier connecting kit: two pre-drilled 200 mil HDPE clamps with 316 stainless hardware, one kit per joint. Overlap the ends a little inside the clamps; it makes the joint easier to line up. You don’t need to order extra length for it.
Any tips before I set it?
Let the coil relax in the sun first. It is easier to set once it lies flat.
What does the Edge Guard do?
Edge Guard is a cap that fits over the top edge of Grass Barrier. It smooths out waves, makes the top edge look thicker and more finished, and makes the edge a little safer to brush against. It comes in a 22 ft length, sold separately.
Can grass still get over the top?
Yes. Grass Barrier works below the soil, so trim any grass that grows over the top edge when you edge the bed.
What is it made of?
100 mil (2.5 mm) HDPE made in the USA, with 200 lbf puncture resistance (ASTM D4833).
